MVC Scotland offer a range of training courses, and informal training sessions aimed at helping you achieve an improved Annual Test pass rate, improved roadside prohibition rate and operator risk score. The courses are based on the standards that are applied by VOSA in the testing stations and at the roadside.
The courses can be provided on your premises, anywhere in Scotland and the North of England.

3 Day HGV & PSV Inspection course
This three-day course is designed to provide candidates charged with vehicle inspections with the appropriate training to be able to accurately identify defects, make wear, corrosion and suitability assessments and evaluate the condition of vehicles in line with VOSA standards.
Specialist inspection instructors are fully qualified and experienced former VOSA vehicle examiners and trainers.
The course objectives are to:
- inform delegates of the importance of inspecting vehicles to roadworthiness standards
- outline the legal requirements
- outline general prohibition standards
- outline general fixed penalty standards
- outline Large Goods Vehicles (lgv) Passenger Carrying Vehicles (pcv) Inspection Manual Standards
- provide a detailed insight into inspection procedures
- provide practical training and wear assessment
- provide practical training on corrosion assessment
- outline brake testing standards
Informal Driver First Use Inspection course
This half-day course is designed to provide candidates charged with driving vehicles the appropriate training to be able to accurately identify defects during their first use or "walk round" check. It is intended to supplement the driver CPC training.
Specialist inspection instructors are fully qualified and experienced vehicle engineers.
The course objectives are to:
- inform delegates of the importance of inspecting vehicles to roadworthiness standards
- outline the legal requirements
- outline Large Goods Vehicles (lgv)/Passenger Carrying Vehicles (pcv) Inspection Manual Standards
- provide practical training and wear assessment
(NEW) Training for local authority depot managers in Operators Licence requirements
This course has been designed specifically for local authority managers. It provides candidates with an insight of the Traffic Commissioner's requirements and VOSA targetting and standards.
The course objectives are to:
- Inform delegates of the importance of driver first use inspections
- Inform delegates of the importance of providing vehicles for regular inspections
- Inform delegates about Graduated Deposits & Fixed Penalties
- Inform delegates of their responsibilities
- Inform delegates of the consequences of non compliance
- Inform delegates of the role & powers of the Traffic Commissioner
Train the Trainer in first use inspections (Light Goods)
This half-day course is designed to provide candidates charged with training non technical staff the basic standards and procedures required when they carry out a first use check on a light goods vehicle.
Specialist inspection instructors are fully qualified and experienced vehicle engineers.
The course objectives are to:
- inform delegates of the importance of inspecting vehicles to roadworthiness standards
- outline the legal requirements
- outline inspection manual standards
- demonstrate a practical check
- provide delegates with suitable training guides for their candidates
Informal Test routine Coaching (MOT)
This coaching is intended to provide guidance and increase the confidence of nominated testers, or those intending to be nominated testers.
Specialist inspection instructors are fully qualified and experienced vehicle engineers.
It is an informal coaching session which will normally take 2 to 3 hours on a one to one basis.
